"My squad was pretty set on Sunday, but then on Monday there was some news that made me think," said Erik Hamrén as he revealed Sweden's UEFA EURO 2016 squad.
His main concern was midfielder Albin Ekdal; the Hamburg player – who played in eight qualifying games – suffered a deep cut to his back after falling on to a glass table top at the weekend. "He has to rest completely now – we don't know how long for," the coach explained. "He might not be in the squad at the finals – it depends on his recovery process.
The 23-man squad is headed by captain Zlatan Ibrahimović, referred to by Hamrén as "our only world-class player". If Sweden are to make it to the knockout phase, the coach said the Paris striker "needs to be on top form and the team need to play three matches at 100%", adding: "If we get through, anything can happen."
Six members of the squad were winners at last summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic: Ludwig Augustinsson, Patrik Carlgren, John Guidetti, Oscar Hiljemark, Oscar Lewicki and Victor Lindelöf.
