Squad analysis
Off the pitch, Michael O'Neill has cultivated a special 'club spirit'. On it, he boasts experienced players in key areas, epitomised by captain Steven Davis and defenders Jonny Evans, Gareth McAuley and Craig Cathcart. Crucially, he is also getting the best out of the likes of Jamie Ward (Nottingham Forest), Conor McLaughlin (Fleetwood Town), Oliver Norwood (Reading) and Stuart Dallas (Leeds United). His only question mark? The left side of defence after losing Chris Brunt to a serious knee injury in February.
One to watch
The influential Davis and forward Kyle Lafferty, who scored seven goals in qualifying, are the obvious answers – but keep an eye on Manchester United's Paddy McNair. The 21-year-old, who made his international debut last year, has impressed in midfield in recent friendlies. He is capable of enhancing his reputation in France.
How they'll play
O'Neill used an effective 4-3-3 formation in qualifying, with Lafferty operating as a lone striker. However, he has opted for a 3-5-2 system in recent friendlies. The move allows him to get three Premier League centre-backs – Evans (West Brom), Cathcart (Watford) and McAuley (West Brom) – on the pitch. Do not be surprised if Northern Ireland switch between 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 during games depending on the state of play.
What you don't know
This is Northern Ireland's first appearance at a UEFA European Championship finals and their first major tournament since the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
How they'll do
A seaside psychic on a vodka binge would not have foreseen Northern Ireland topping their qualifying group – so how on earth do we predict how they might do in France? O'Neill and his players know the opening game against Poland on 12 June is crucial. Take something from that and belief will grow.
Your most memorable EURO moment
Given this is Northern Ireland's first EURO, the options are limited. A recent highlight has to be the 3-1 home victory over Greece in October, a result that secured qualification. O'Neill's celebrations on the touchline and the post-match atmosphere at Windsor Park will live long in the memory.
What you're most looking forward to this summer
It is tempting to say Germany in Paris on 21 June, but it has to be Northern Ireland's opening Group C game against Poland at the Stade de Nice. Seeing Davis lead the team out at its first major tournament in 30 years will be special.
