Scolari in talks for Portuguese post

FIFA 2002 World Cup-winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is in talks to take over as coach of Portugal.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) have announced on its website that chairman Gilberto Madaíl met with Luiz Felipe Scolari in Madrid on Saturday, and discussed the possibility of the 2002 FIFA World Cup winning-coach taking control of the EURO 2004™ hosts.

Beneficial meeting
According to the FPF, the meeting, which was held in strict secrecy, was a profitable one for both sides, with both parties stressing their interest in signing a deal. However, they also announced that negotiations will not be concluded until all their goals have been met.

Further talks needed
Further talks are likely before any permanent deal is agreed, and the FPF highlighted that, “there are some questions which still need to be analysed and some details still have to be sorted out". However, Scolari’s press officer Acaz Felleguer told Portuguese radio station Rádio Renascença that, “in two weeks maximum, the negotiations will arrive at a positive conclusion for everybody.”
