Ankle injury sidelines Hamann

Dietmar Hamann has been ruled out of Germany's friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Liverpool FC midfield player Dietmar Hamann has joined Michael Ballack and Christoph Metzelder on the absentee list for Germany's friendly with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday after suffering an ankle injury in training.

'Can’t shoot'
"Hamann is struggling after taking a knock to his ankle and he can't shoot properly," coach Rudi Völler explained. FC Bayern München playmaker Ballack and Metzelder, the BV Borussia Dortmund defender, did not even make the trip because of a bout of influenza and a torn Achilles tendon, respectively.

Cover arranged
Team doctors will decide whether Hamann and Ballack are fit to take part in next week's EURO 2004™ qualifier against the Faroe Islands in Hannover, but Metzelder has no chance of returning to fitness. SV Werder Bremen's Fabian Ernst and Paul Freier, of Vfl Bochum 1848, are favourites to stand in.
