Danish duty for Sennels

Asbjørn Sennels has received his first call-up for Denmark's friendly against Finland on 20 August.

First appearance
The 24-year-old Viborg FF defender could make his international debut in the friendly game in Copenhagen as coach Morten Olsen assesses his options on the left side of defence ahead of next month's UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifier against Group 2 opponents Romania.

Viable alternative
"We have been in need of experienced left-backs since Jan Heintze retired last season, and we simply need an alternative to Niclas Jensen in that position," said Olsen. "After watching Sennels for some time I have concluded that he may be that alternative."

'Dream come true'
Sennels was ecstatic at the call-up, saying: "It was a surprise and a dream come true that I was selected," he said. "Of course, I have been dreaming a little of the national team, but I really did not expect this. Morten Olsen must have noticed that I have done well for Viborg in the first three league games this season and that must have told him that I am fit to play at this level too."
