Danish trip ends in defeat

Morten Olsen's Denmark side return home on Monday following a disappointing tour of the United States.

Denmark coach Morten Olsen leads his side back home following a tour of the United States that failed to reveal anything unexpected ahead of the finals of UEFA EURO 2004™.

Domestic-based squad
The Scandinavian side took a squad comprising entirely of players from the Superligaen to California but, given the chance to shine in the absence of the big-name players who ply their trade overseas, the domestic-based players failed to impress.

Two defeats
A 1-1 draw against the United States in the team's first friendly was followed by 3-1 defeats – against first a team consisting of domestic American players, and then against El Salvadorian club team CD Aquila.

Bechmann boost
Esbjerg fB striker Tommy Bechmann was one of the tour's few successes, scoring a consolation goal against Aquila after Denmark had fallen 3-0 behind. Olsen's side are returning to Copenhagen on Monday.
