Estonia 1-2 Poland
Sobolewski strike
A lively first half ended goalless, with both sides missing chances in a competitive game. However, Poland came out flying after the break, and, on 51 minutes, Radoslaw Sobolewski gave the visitors the lead. Receiving possession on the right, he sent a long-range shot past the stranded Estonia goalkeeper Mart Poom and into the net.
Estonia fight-back
Estonia staged an impressive fightback after going a goal down, but were repeatedly denied by the athletic goalkeeping of Liverpool FC's Jerzy Dudek. Against the run of play, Poland grabbed a second to secure victory in added time, as Artur Wichniarek finished off a well-worked counterattack.
Consolation goal
There was a late consolation for the hosts as Estonia's defensive substitute Marek Lemsalu finally found a way past Dudek, but it was to prove the final act.
Hopes fading
Poland will now have to travel to Latvia on 6 September before facing Sweden at home on 10 September, in their bid to revive their flagging hopes of EURO 2004™ qualification. Estonia are fourth in the keenly-contested Group 8, and are next facing a trip to Bulgaria on 6 September.
