Totti injury could hurt Italy

AS Roma's Francesco Totti could miss Italy's UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifier against Wales with a hip injury.

Serious doubt
Totti limped off after 38 minutes of a friendly match against Spanish side Real Betis Balompié yesterday. Tests revealed he would be absent for between two and three weeks, making him a serious doubt for the 6 September showdown with Wales in Milan.

Summit in sight
Giovanni Trapattoni's Italy side are two points behind Group 9 leaders Wales with three games to play. Last week Totti played alongside Alessandro Del Piero and Christian Vieri in the Italy attack for the first time since last year's FIFA World Cup as they defeated Germany in a friendly in Stuttgart. Trapattoni will name his squad to face Wales on Sunday.
