Hosts stunned by five-star show

Estonia 1-5 Lithuania The Lithuanians make a tremendous start to the 19th Baltic Cup.

Estonia 1-5 Lithuania
Lithuania made a tremendous start to the 19th Baltic Cup with a resounding victory against hosts Estonia.

Comfortable display
Although both teams were using experimental squads, Lithuania showed a greater strength in depth as they capitalised on some defensive lapses from the home team to win handsomely. Goals from Igoris Morinas, Deividas Cesnauskis, Andrius Velicka, Marius Bezykornovas and Edgaras Cesnauskis did the damage and set up an intriguing contest between Lithuania and holders Latvia on Friday.

Slow start
The Estonians had started well with Meelis Rooba forcing a reflex save from Zydrunas Karcemarskas after his shot had taken a deflection. However, once Morinas had found the net in the 38th minute, there was only one side in the contest. With half-time approaching, a thunderous shot from Deividas Cesnauskis made it two.

Last word
Estonia cut the deficit in the 57th minute from debutant Jaanus Sirel's header but it was to be the last word from the hosts. Substitute Velicka converted an easy chance before another replacement, Bezykornovas, beat Pareiko with an accurate shot from 18 metres in the 84th minute. Finally, Edgaras Cesnauskis, Deividas's younger brother, celebrated his full debut with a headed goal in added time.
