Looking forward
Buryak has called up 24 players but it is to Rebrov and Shevchenko that most attention will be turned. Rebrov's club career has been given a new lift with a move to Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK after an unhappy spell with Tottenham Hotspur FC in England.
Excluded from draw
Rebrov did not play in Ukraine's last match, a 1-1 friendly draw against Slovakia in November, after asking to be excluded as he was not playing first-team football at Tottenham. AC Milan's Shevchenko, meanwhile, is battling back to form after knee surgery last August.
Chance for youth
Another experienced player selected is Arsenal FC defender Oleh Luzhny, but the Ukraine captain has reportedly expressed a desire to be left out of the friendly. "I'm not refusing to play for the national team, but for the most part the coaches need these friendly matches to test young players while veterans like myself don't need these tests,” he said.
Spanish waiting
The 12 February fixture will be Ukraine's final warm-up before they take on Group 6 leaders Spain in a UEFA European Championship qualifier on 29 March. Ukraine are second with five points, one point behind the Spanish, but have played a game more.
