Olic cleared to carry on

Croatia striker Ivica Olic has escaped punishment after testing positive for a banned substance following the Group B match against France.

No fault
The player tested positive for Methylprednisolone, a banned substance, after the Group B match against France on 17 June, in which he appeared as a 73rd-minute substitute. However, UEFA's control and disciplinary body ruled today that the player did not commit any fault, meaning he is now available for selection for tomorrow's match against England.

Federation fined
Instead it has fined the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) €6,600 for failing to follow the correct procedures set by the anti-doping authorities. In addition, Zoran Bahtijarevic, the doctor responsible for anti-doping matters within the federation, received a warning and his colleague, Boris Nemec, the doctor treating Olic, a reprimand.

Rib injury
Olic suffered a rib injury in a friendly against Denmark on 5 June and two days later was given a pain blocker which included Methylprednisolone. However, the UEFA control and disciplinary body reported that the two doctors failed to complete and submit the necessary Therapeutic Use Exemption form (TUE) to UEFA. This would have been deemed acceptable had it been submitted.

Hearing
The Croatian doctors and the representative of the HNS, who all spoke at today's hearing, acknowledged the facts and assumed their responsibility. The HNS has three days to appeal against the fine.
