Group B
Pierluigi Collina of Italy will take charge of the Group B game between England and Croatia at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon on Monday while Slovakia's Luboš Michel will referee the meeting of Switzerland and France at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra.
Group C
German referee Markus Merk will take charge of the Estádio do Bessa Século XXI showdown between Scandinavian rivals Denmark and Sweden on Tuesday. The other Group C match that night, between Italy and Bulgaria at the Estádio Afonso D. Henriques in Guimarães, will be refereed by Russian Valentin Ivanov.
Group D
In Group D, finally, Norway's Terje Hauge will take charge of Wednesday’s match between Germany and the Czech Republic at Lisbon's Estádio José Alvalade. Danish referee Kim Milton Nielsen has been assigned the Netherlands-Latvia match at the Estádio Municipal de Braga.
Referee team
There are 12 referees in all officiating at the tournament, each working alongside two assistant referees from his own country. Four other referees are also in Portugal as fourth officials for various matches, and together with the other referees, are ready to deputise in the event of injury or illness.
