Melchiot back in favour

Chelsea FC defender Mario Melchiot has won a place in the Netherlands squad to face France next week.

Chelsea FC defender Mario Melchiot has been selected in the Netherlands squad to face reigning European champions France at Rotterdam's De Kuip stadium next Wednesday.

Test of strength
Netherlands coach Dick Advocaat called up the 27-year-old to the 22-man squad for the first time in almost a year. The right-back last represented his country against Portugal last April, coming on as a substitute in a 1-1 draw.

Two returns
Manchester City FC midfield player Paul Bosvelt and FC Barcelona's Michael Reiziger also return after they were left out from the squad to face the United States last month. Nigel de Jong, who replaced the injured Reiziger in that match, retains his place.

Robben injury
The only other personnel change is the omission of Arjen Robben due to a hamstring injury. The PSV Eindhoven winger scored his first international goal on his third appearance in the 1-0 defeat of the US.

Netherlands squad
Van der Sar, Waterreus, De Boer, Bouma, Heitinga, De Jong, Melchiot, Reiziger, Stam, Zenden, Van Bommel, Bosvelt, Cocu, Davids, Seedorf, Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Van Hooijdonk, Makaay, Van der Meyde, Van Nistelrooy, Overmars.
