Czechs able to look forward

Czech Republic strikers Milan Baroš and Vratislav Lokvenc have shrugged off their recent injury problems.

Good news
Baroš came off with a head injury in yesterday's 2-0 home win against Estonia following a collision with an opponent. However, fears that he had suffered concussion proved unfounded and the Liverpool FC striker, who scored both his side's goals, has no lasting damage. VfL Bochum 1848 forward Lokvenc, who sat out the Estonia match after spraining his ankle last week, should be able to train again on Wednesday.

Defensive needa
Coach Karel Brückner will be relieved about his side's prospects in attack, especially as he can continue to focus on his defensive needs before their opening match in Portugal against Latvia on 15 June. Although his side achieved a first clean sheet since the 5-0 defeat of Moldova a year ago against Estonia, Brückner has been experimenting with his rearguard options.

Bolf praised
David Rozehnal, of Club Brugge KV, and Reggina Calcio stopper Martin Jiránek have each been given a chance to impress but neither look set to force their way into the starting lineup. It appears likely that Brückner will stick to tried and tested men like René Bolf, who did not miss a minute of qualifying but started on the bench yesterday. He came on in the second half and earned praise from Brückner for his "power, vision and timing".
