Greece coach Otto Rehhagel has named the eight foreign-based players who should form the nucleus of his UEFA EURO 2004™ squad.
The international eight
The German included defenders Nikos Dabizas of Leicester City FC, Takis Fyssas from Benfica FC and AS Roma FC's Traianos Dellas in the list. In midfield, Bolton Wanderers FC's Stylianos Giannakopoulos joins Giorgos Karagounis of FC Internazionale, with Club Atlético de Madrid striker Themistoklis Nikolaidis, AC Fiorentina's Zisis Vryzas and SV Werder Bremen's Angelos Haristeas completing the octet.
Warm-up fixtures
The players will travel to the Greece training camp in Switzerland ahead of two warm-up games against Poland on 29 May and then Liechtenstein five days later. Haristeas will only be available for the second of these games after he was given permission to play in the German Cup final on 29 May. Rehhagel will announce his full squad prior to the team's departure for Switzerland on 27 May.
Opening test
Greece, who lost 4-0 in their last outing in the Netherlands two weeks ago, are in Group A at the finals along with Portugal, Spain and Russia. Their first match is against the host nation in the opening game of the tournament on 12 June at the Estádio do Dragão.
