Oblak takes leave of Slovenia post

The Football Association of Slovenia has parted company with coach Branko Oblak by mutual consent. "It's time for change," said president Rudolf Zavrl.

Rebuilding programme
Oblak, 59, who represented the former Yugoslavia as a player and was voted Slovenia's Golden Player during UEFA's jubilee celebrations of 2004, took charge in May 2004 and immediately made his mark by axing playmaker Zlatko Zahovič and several other established figures. His ruthless rebuilding programme failed to achieve the desired results, though, and Slovenia recorded six wins, seven draws and ten defeats under his tenure.

Several candidates
"We are now looking for a new head coach," added Zavrl, who revealed that ex-Slovenia captain Darko Milanič is among Oblak's potential successors. "I think we will name him in December but there is more than just one candidate." Slovenia are fifth in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying Group G having tallied three points from their opening three games, a 2-0 home victory against Luxembourg.
