The Republic of Ireland's international football consultant Sir Bobby Robson is recuperating after undergoing surgery to repair lung damage.

Sir Bobby Robson, the Republic of Ireland's international football consultant and former coach of the England national team, is recuperating after undergoing surgery to repair lung damage sustained in a skiing accident.

Skiing fall
The 73-year-old Sir Bobby, who began his current role working alongside Ireland coach Steve Staunton in January, had a small operation on Saturday to fix the damage to his lung which resulted from a rib injury caused by a fall while skiing in February, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) said.

Short recuperation
"The operation was very successful and it is expected that Sir Bobby will spend a short time recuperating," the FAI said. "Speaking from Newcastle, Sir Bobby said he was feeling well and looking forward to getting back to work with Steve Staunton and the squad as soon as possible."
