Barić on board for Albania

Albania are to be led by veteran coach Otto Barić, the man who took Croatia all the way to UEFA EURO 2004™, as they bid to qualify for the 2008 finals.

The 74-year-old's appointment was confirmed by the Football Association of Albania (FSF) executive committee today, meaning he will replace Hans-Peter Briegel who left the post last month. FSF president Armando Duka said: "Baric will come to Albania soon to sign all the papers and the new contract." Barić is a highly-respected coach, having guided Croatia to the UEFA EURO 2004™ finals, while he has also led the Austrian national team and several club sides in both countries. Albania will compete in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying Group G, a pool which the Netherlands are favourite to top.
