Salihamidzić calls time on Bosnia

Bosnia-Herzegovina midfielder Hasan Salihamidžić has announced his retirement from international football after 41 appearances for his country.

Injury problems
Salihamidžić, who has suffered with injuries throughout his career, has made 41 appearances for his country and scored six goals. He featured in all five qualification tournaments that Bosnia-Herzegovina have participated in and scored his nation's first international goal on his debut in 1996 as Bosnia-Herzegovina lost 4-1 against Croatia. "I want to concentrate on Bayern," Salihamidžić said. "After numerous injuries and ten operations in the last ten years I decided after talks with doctors in the United States and Germany that it is the best for my health to wave good-bye to the national team."

Missing matches
The 29-year-old is duly unavailable for his nation's opening UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers against Malta and Hungary in September. Slišković said: "We are sorry to hear Hasan's decision. Having him out of the national team will be a big loss. However, his health is the most important thing."
