No renewal
"The KSÍ decided during a meeting on 27 October not to renew their contract with national team coach Eyjólfur Sverrisson, which expires on 31 October," read an official statement. "Sverrisson will therefore not be in charge of Iceland's match against Denmark on 21 November. We would like to thank Sverrisson for all his good work with the national team over the years."
Disappointing results
Sverrisson took charge of Iceland in October 2005 after two years as Iceland Uunder-21 coach but after overseeing a disappointing UEFA EURO 2008™ campaign, which most recently produced a 4-2 defeat by Latvia and a 3-0 loss against Liechtenstein, the 39-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements. It is not yet known who will be in charge of the side, who are second from bottom of Group F, for the trip to Copenhagen next month.
