Germany 3-1 Romania
Germany staged an impressive comeback to beat Romania 3-1 in Cologne as the leaders in UEFA EURO 2008™ Groups G and D met in a competitive friendly.
Hildebrand heroics
Over 45,000 expectant fans filed into the Köln Rhein Energie Stadium but the majority were dealt an early blow when Dorin Goian gave the visitors a third-minute lead, drilling in Adrian Mutu's cross. With Joachim Löw opting to field several of his fringe players home goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand had to be at his best to deny Ciprian Marica, Petre Marin and Nicolae Diča, but Germany soon found their feet.
Germany turnaround
Bernd Schneider equalised three minutes before half-time when he headed in Bastian Schweinsteiger's cross before substitute David Odonkor rounded off a fine solo effort midway through the second period to make it 2-1. Lukas Podolski completed the scoring eight minutes from time, drilling in from long range as Romania's impressive 14-game unbeaten run came to an end.
