The home side took early control as Sergey Ostapenko, Dmitriy Byakov and Anton Chichulin all went close. At the other end Kamil Saidov headed over before breaking the deadlock for Tajikistan close to half-time. One-on-one with Kazakhstan goalkeeper David Loria, he shot precisely into the top corner.

After the break Kazakhstan created a succession of chances and finally secured a draw when Kairat Nurdauletov connected with Nurbol Zhumaskaliyev's corner to open his international account. Kazakhstan lie seventh in Group A in their debut UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign.
