Anastasiadis intent
Coach Angelos Anastasiadis has already underlined the importance of making up ground in his side's next three Group D fixtures against San Marino, home and away, and Wales in Cyprus on 13 October but will have to take on San Marino without reserve goalkeeper Morphis, who has a broken finger, and suspended midfielder Makridis. "Every player must be aware that this game will be hard and not easy," said Anastasiadis. "That is the message that I have been repeatedly giving all the players."
Christou call-up
AEK Larnaca FC's Sofronis Avgousti will deputise for Morphis while Makridis's place has been taken by Paraskevas Christou, also of AEK. Anastasiadis has also called up defender Marios Nicolaou, who recently joined Greek side Panionios FC. Cyprus sit on four points in Group D following a 5-2 win against Republic of Ireland and their encouraging 1-1 draw with leaders Germany, whom they trail by eleven points.
