Provisional contract
Last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists released a statement saying that Aragonés has accepted a provisional contract, to be finalised after Spain's UEFA EURO 2008™ campaign ends. The statement read: "Fenerbahçe have appointed José Luis Aragonés Suárez, who is currently in charge of the Spanish side at EURO 2008™, as the club's new coach." Zico left Fenerbahçe earlier this week after failing to agree a new deal.
Long career
Aragonés, who had previously announced he would vacate the national-team role after the tournament, refuted the claim on the eve of Thursday's semi-final against Russia in Vienna. "I don't understand it because Luis has not signed anything with anybody," said the 69-year-old, adding of the announcement. "I don't think it will affect the players. It is just another piece of news. Sometimes the news is true and sometimes it isn't."
