RSC Anderlecht striker Tom De Sutter faces "a few months" on the sidelines after injuring his ankle shortly after scoring on Saturday.

The 25-year-old replaced Romelu Lukaku 70 minutes into the match against KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen. He scored the third in a 4-0 win three minutes later, only for his day to take a turn for the worse when he limped off after catching his studs in the turf.

"I attempted a volley but my foot stuck in the pitch," De Sutter said. "I knew it was serious immediately. It's a pity as I've just recovered from a knee injury, although I will aim for a speedy recovery."

Anderlecht confirmed the player had damaged cartilage in his ankle and will need "a few months" to recover. He will therefore miss his club's bid to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage – they meet FK Partizan in the play-offs, starting with a trip to Belgrade on Wednesday – and Belgium's early qualifiers for UEFA EURO 2012.
