Scotland in need of Vaduz victory

Scotland travel to Vaduz for their penultimate Group I qualifier needing three points against a Liechtenstein side who gave them an awkward evening in Glasgow in September 2010.

Liechtenstein have one last chance to cause an upset in Group I as they take on Scotland, having already caused some raised eyebrows by taking four points off Lithuania in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying.

• As for the Scots, with the second-placed Czech Republic facing Spain 24 hours earlier, they will know before stepping out in Vaduz whether the door to the play-offs has swung further ajar or not. Either way, a victory is vital to their prospects.

• Scotland scraped a 2-1 victory when they met Liechtenstein on 7 September last year. For 16 minutes at Hampden Park, Mario Frick's opener just after half-time had looked set to earn Liechtenstein a first away win since a 4-0 triumph over Luxembourg in October 2004. Kenny Miller (63) ended any such thoughts and Stephen McManus headed a dramatic winner for Craig Levein's side in the seventh minute of added time.

• That was the first game between the two nations at senior level.

• Perennial Liechtenstein Cup winners FC Vaduz have twice faced Scottish sides in two-legged UEFA ties. They were eliminated by Livingston FC on away goals after 1-1 and 0-0 draws in a 2002/03 UEFA Cup qualifying round tie, but knocked out Falkirk FC in the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League second qualifying round, winning 2-0 at home after a 1-0 loss in Scotland.

• Liechtenstein lost 8-0 to Scotland in a UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifier in Livingston on 21 September 2007. More recently, their U19 side lost 7-0 to Scotland in a qualifier in Rakvere, Estonia, on 28 September 2010.
