Walker commits to long-term Tottenham contract

After a breakthrough season in the Premier League, England defender and young player of the year Kyle Walker has signed a new deal that will keep him at Tottenham Hotspur FC until 2017.

England international Kyle Walker has agreed terms on a new deal that will keep him at Tottenham Hotspur FC until 2017.

The right-back, who joined the north London club from Sheffield United FC in 2009 and had spells on loan at Queens Park Rangers FC and Aston Villa FC last term, has enjoyed a breakthrough season at White Hart Lane. He has appeared in 47 of Spurs' 51 matches in all competitions and won his first two England caps in November.

Walker, 21, will be hopeful of making Roy Hodgson's England squad for UEFA EURO 2012, having been voted young player of the year by his peers within the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).

Before then, however, the former Under-21 international is aiming to help Tottenham qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League. Wednesday night's 4-1 defeat of Bolton Wanderers FC took Harry Redknapp's charges to within a point of third-placed Arsenal FC in the Premier League with two matches remaining.

England open their UEFA European Championship campaign against France in Donetsk on 11 June before meeting Sweden four days later in Kyiv. Hodgson's side then face co-hosts Ukraine in their final Group D match on 19 June.
