Georgia claimed their first win in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying, easing Gibraltar aside at the Estádio Algarve in Faro-Loule.

Having lost both their first two qualifiers, Georgia needed a positive start and duly took the lead before ten minutes had been played. Giorgi Chanturia slipped a pass through the home defence which released Nikoloz Gelashvili and the forward made no mistake, sliding his shot past Jamie Robba.

Gibraltar, who had conceded seven goals against both Poland and the Republic of Ireland, mounted a spirited response. First Ryan Casciaro's header was blocked by Ucha Lobzhanidze's outstretched left leg, before Giorgi Loria had to adjust smartly to fingertip Liam Walker's deflected shot behind.

Two minutes later, however, it was 2-0. Jano Ananidze measured a pass through to Tornike Okriashvili and, with time and space, the No15 picked his spot past Robba. It might have been even worse for Gibraltar before half-time, Chanturia's deflected effort looping up and onto the woodwork with Robba beaten, before the keeper stood up well to block Gelashvili's drive with his legs.

Gibraltar heads still did not drop, Lee Casciaro drawing a good stop from Loria shortly after half-time, but Georgia made it three just past the second half's midway point. Solomon Kverkvelia's pass was unselfishly dummied by Chanturia leaving Jaba Kankava striding clear and again the finish was clinical, to sum up Georgia's display.
