Estonia got their first UEFA EURO 2016 Group E win since matchday one, a double from Sergei Zenjov giving them three points against San Marino.

San Marino had ended a 59-match wait for a UEFA European Championship qualifying point when they drew 0-0 in the reverse fixture in November and started brightly in Tallinn. With 15 minutes on the clock, Mirko Palazzi's fine long-range strike forced Mihkel Aksalu into a full-stretch save – the Estonia goalkeeper clawing the ball around the post for a corner.

That scare seemed to wake up the hosts as they began to boss possession, although they had to wait until ten minutes before half-time to get the breakthrough. It was fitting that Joel Lindpere would be involved on his 100th appearance for his country. The 33-year-old's cross from the right eluded everyone before Zenjov arrived at the far-post to prod the ball in, ending a four-match European Qualifiers goal drought for Estonia.

The hosts came agonisingly close to a second eight minutes after the break, Ken Kallaste's shot coming off both posts before Zenjov fired the rebound over with the goal gaping. The forward would make amends in the 63rd minute, however, with his and Estonia's second, as he turned Kallaste's teasing left-wing cross into the net from close range.

Victory for Estonia kept up their slim hopes of qualification with four games remaining, while San Marino remain rooted to the bottom of Group E with one point.
