Deisler makes long-awaited return

Sebastian Deisler is in the Germany squad for the Group 5 qualifiers against Iceland and Scotland.

Deisler return
FC Bayern München midfield player Sebastian Deisler is back in a party of 22 players along with Arne Friedrich of Hertha BSC Berlin. The 23-year-old Deisler last played for his country against Austria in May 2002, when he limped off with a knee injury that forced him to miss the FIFA World Cup finals.

Bayern debut
After joining Bayern the same summer, Deisler did not make his debut until February 2003. His club mate Michael Ballack also returns after a calf injury sidelined the midfield player for the recent friendly against Italy.

Iceland challenge
Germany are currently second in qualifying Group 5, one point behind surprise leaders Iceland with a game in hand. Germany visit Reykjavik on 6 September before facing third-placed Scotland in Hamburg four days later.

Germany squad
Kahn, Lehmann, Baumann, Friedrich, Hartmann, Hinkel, Rau, Rehmer, Wörns, Ballack, Deisler, Freier, Jeremies, Kehl, Rahn, Ramelow, Schneider, Bobic, Klose, Kuranyi, Lauth, Neuville.
