KRC Genk finished their UEFA Europa League Group G campaign undefeated by edging FC Thun 1-0 in Switzerland.

The Belgian side had already secured top spot, prompting coach Mario Been to ring the changes as a number of fringe players were given an opportunity to impress. Genk's winner arrived in the 31st minute when Jelle Vossen found the net from close range. The visitors will find out their route to the quarter-finals when the draw is made for the round of 32 and 16 from 13.00CET on Monday.

Thun, aiming for their second group stage victory, nearly opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Christian Schneuwly forced a low save from Kristof Van Hout. The visitors subsequently took control of the first period, Siebe Schrijvers shooting into the arms of David Moser shortly before the opening goal. Ayub Maskia powered through the Thun defence, crossing low for Vossen, who turned the ball in with the outside of his right foot for his third goal of the campaign.

Thun made a better fist of things in the second half, and had several opportunities to level. The Schneuwly brothers were instrumental in their revival, as first Marco found space before curling wide, before Christian Schneuwly set up Milos Krstić, who missed the target with a first-time shot.

Marco Schneuwly went close again on 72 minutes when the striker's effort on the stretch was well saved by Genk keeper Van Hout. Cássio should perhaps then have hit the target from 16 metres as the clock ticked down, but the forward mistimed his shot and blasted over.
