Jailson punishes profligate Bolton

Bolton Wanderers FC 1-1 SC Braga Jailson pounced three minutes from time to cancel out substitute El Hadji Djouf's headed opener.

An 87th-minute equaliser by Jailson earned SC Braga a Group F point against Bolton Wanderers FC.

Late twist
El Hadji Diouf appeared to have given Bolton a morale-boosting three points when he came off the bench to head the hosts into the lead midway through the second half but Jailson's goal piled more misery on the club occupying bottom spot in the English Premier League.

Anelka chance
With new boss Gary Megson watching on from the sidelines having been appointed today, Bolton offered a dominant display but failed to convert a host of chances. The home side could have twice taken the lead in the space of three first-half minutes as Kevin Davies failed to direct an angled header on target and Nicolas Anelka mishit a lob from 30 metres.

Speed header
A constant thorn in Braga's side, Anelka set up another chance for Bolton after cutting in from the right. Gary Speed ran on to his clipped cross, but the header was well wide. Six minutes after the restart the same pair combined, Speed cushioning a header to Anelka who unleashed a wayward strike. Although Braga were content to sit back they almost took an unexpected lead on 63 minutes when Wender played in Jorginho who forced Jussi Jääskeläinen into a reaction save at his near post.

Opening goal
The opening goal came in the next attack. Diouf had only been on the field for five minutes but found the space to head in a Davies cross at the far post. Braga soon hit back. César Peixoto forced another save from Jääskeläinen with a swerving shot and then, with five minutes left and seconds after Davies had hit the post at the other end, Jailson turned João Pereira's cross into the far corner with a magnificent header .
