Leeds robbed of Fowler for two months

Hip surgery will force Robbie Fowler out of the start of Leeds United AFC's season.

England striker Robbie Fowler will miss the start of Leeds United AFC's English FA Premiership and UEFA Cup campaigns after undergoing a hip operation.

Sent home
The 27-year-old is set to be missing for up to eight weeks after surgeons shaved a piece of cartilage from from his hip. He had been sent home early from his club's pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia this week after his long-standing hip problem flared up.

Back for Arsenal
Fowler, part of England’s squad at the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, is expected to miss seven Premiership games and the first round of the UEFA Cup. The prolific forward, who cost €17.5m from Liverpool FC last November, is expected to return for the visit of champions Arsenal FC to Elland Road on 28 September.
