Karic completes Maribor move

Slovenia's Amir Karic has returned to NK Maribor after terminating his contract with Ipswich Town FC.

Slovenian international Amir Karic has returned to NK Maribor in his homeland after his contract with Ipswich Town FC was terminated by mutual consent.

Failed to settle
The 28-year-old joined the English club for €1.2m after impressing for Slovenia at EURO 2000™. Yet Karic, a left-sided defender, failed to settle at Portman Road and made just three substitute appearances.

World Cup showing
Karic spent the final four months of last season back at Maribor and did enough during that spell to cement a place in Slovenia's FIFA World Cup squad. He played in all three of their matches in the Korean Republic and has subsequently played in the EURO 2004™ qualifying matches against Malta and France to take his tally of international appearances to 49.

Weekend debut
A fearsome tackler, Karic won four championships and three Slovenian Cups during his first spell at the Ljudski vrt stadium. He is likely to make his Maribor return against leaders NK Olimpija this weekend.
