Liverpool FC have confirmed the signing of Irish international full-back Steve Finnan from Fulham FC.
The Anfield club have agreed a fee of around €4.9m for the 27-year-old, who becomes manager Gérard Houllier's first signing of the summer. Finnan has agreed terms and will compete with England defender Jamie Carragher for the right-back berth.
'Very talented player'
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry told the club's website: "We have agreed terms with both the club and the player and plan to complete the transfer at the end of this month. Steve is a very talented player who we were eager to bring to Anfield, we are pleased that he has agreed to join us and look forward to seeing him in action next season."
Finnan, who joined Fulham from Notts County FC in 1998, will link up with his former assistant manager at Fulham, Christian Damiano, who is expected to arrive in time for the start of pre-season in July as Liverpool's new first-team coach.
