Materazzi suspended for UEFA Cup

FC Internazionale's Marco Materazzi will be banned for the next two rounds of the UEFA Cup.

All UEFA matches
Materazzi was banned from Italian domestic action until 29 March after a referee's assistant saw him strike AC Siena defender Bruno Cirillo in the tunnel at the San Siro following the Serie A match on 1 February. Materazzi did not even play in the match as he was injured. The FIFA ruling means that the suspension awarded by the Lega Calcio (Italian League) now applies to all UEFA matches until 29 March.

Missing from action
Materazzi will therefore be ineligible for both legs of the UEFA Cup third-round tie against French club FC Sochaux Montbéliard, on 26 February and 3 March, as well as any fourth-round matches should Inter progress. The next game Materazzi will be available for is the Serie A meeting with Juventus FC on 4 April.
