Standard set on Sérgio Conceição

Portuguese international winger Sérgio Conceição has joined UEFA Cup challengers R. Standard de Liège.

One-year contract
The 29-year-old winger has agreed a season-long deal, having left UEFA Champions League winners FC Porto – where he found his first-team opportunities limited, starting just eight league games in 2003/04 – when his contract expired at the end of last term.

Title triumphs
Sérgio Conceição came to prominence at Porto in his first spell at the club from 1996-98, winning two Portuguese championships. He then moved to Italy, collecting a Serie A title with S.S. Lazio in 1999/00 and also playing for Parma FC and FC Internazionale.

International appearances
With Portugal, he appeared at UEFA EURO 2000™, registering a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory against Germany, and in all featured 56 times, scoring 12 goals. "We hope the player will be able to give his best for Standard and that we can profit from his experience and capabilities," a Standard spokesman said.
