Gazzaev celebrates CSKA romp

Coach Valeriy Gazzaev hailed his home support after PFC CSKA Moskva claimed a four-goal win against AJ Auxerre.

Goals from Chidi Odiah, Sergei Ignashevich - a penalty - Vágner Love and Rolan Gusev earned PFC CSKA Moskva a commanding UEFA Cup quarter-final lead against AJ Auxerre after the first leg in Russia, with the return next Thursday. It was a result that left veteran Auxerre coach Guy Roux, who had Jean-Pascal Mignot dismissed late on, comtemplating the end of his side's hopes in the competition and his opposite number Valeriy Gazzaev attributing his team's win to the passion of the home support.

Valeriy Gazzaev, CSKA coach
It was the fierce support of our fans that made us win 4-0 tonight. Our team acted as one unit and produced great football. Our players not only made our supporters happy, but also the whole of Russia. It may sound strange, but such a scoreline is a headache. We have to put it aside and travel to Auxerre perfectly ready for action, because we are facing a tough game there.

Guy Roux, Auxerre coach
CSKA produced an awesome game. We were lacking some defenders so I had to reshuffle our back line. One of our defenders played his last game three months ago, while another has only played for the reserve side. It is difficult to withstand a side of international level, which CSKA surely are, in such conditions. The return leg will be a matter of honour for us. As for CSKA, I advise them to drink Chablis tonight.
