Zenit dealt injury blows

FC Zenit St. Petersburg duo Andrei Arshavin and Aleksandr Anyukov have both been sidelined for several weeks.

Double blow
Both were injured in Saturday's Russian Premier-Liga encounter with FC Alania Vladikavkaz which Zenit won 3-1. Russian international midfielder Arshavin fractured his left wrist and faces five weeks on the sidelines, meaning he could also miss the FIFA World Cup qualifying trip to Latvia on 17 August. However, there is a possibility the 24-year-old will return to action earlier with the aid of a splint.

Anyukov sidelined
Defender Anyukov, 22, who recently joined Zenit from fellow UEFA Cup contenders FC Krylya Sovetov Samara, has damaged ligaments in his left ankle. His projected recovery time will become clear after an additional scan. In a further blow for Vlastimil Petrzela's side, 26-year-old Croatian defender Ivica Krizanac suffered heavy bruising to his right ankle. The second qualifying round draw is made on Friday, with matches on 11 and 25 August.
