Cork manager misses trip

Cork City FC will be without manager Damien Richardson for Thursday's trip to SK Slavia Praha after he was hospitalised with a lung complaint.

Cork City FC will be without their manager Damien Richardson for Thursday's UEFA Cup first round first-leg trip to SK Slavia Praha after he was detained in hospital with a lung complaint.

Week-long rest
Richardson, who took over as Cork manager at the start of this season, was not involved in Friday's 3-0 Irish Premier Division win at home to Bray Wanderers FC as he went to hospital complaining of chest pains. After examinion by medical staff, he was detained overnight and has been told by doctors to rest for a week.

Hill steps in
That will prevent the Dublin-born manager from leading league leaders Cork into their UEFA Cup game in the Czech Republic, so assistant manager Dave Hill will take charge of the side with Richardson set to return for the home leg on 29 September. Former Irish international Richardson was also manager of Cork when they played Slavia in the UEFA Cup in 1995, when the Czech team won 6-0 on aggregate.
