Seven countries will be represented in the last eight of the UEFA Cup after the lineup for this afternoon's quarter-final draw was completed.
German duo
Rangers FC and Sporting Clube de Portugal were the last two teams to book their places as Thursday's remaining Round of 16 ties brought victories for the Scottish and Portuguese sides. Despite Werder Bremen's defeat by Rangers, the German Bundesliga will have the biggest presence in the draw, which is for both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals of the competition – FC Bayern München and Bayer 04 Leverkusen having won through on Wednesday at the expense of RSC Anderlecht and Hamburger SV.
British standard-bearer
Rangers will be the sole British representative after Sporting's win against Bolton Wanderers FC. ACF Fiorentina and PSV Eindhoven had edged out Everton FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC in penalty shoot-outs on Wednesday to maintain the challenge from Italy and the Dutch Eredivisie. Russian champions FC Zenit St. Petersburg will be a team to avoid after they eliminated Olympique de Marseille on away goals while tournament debutants Getafe CF – conquerors of SL Benfica – fly the flag for Spain.
Ambassador
The draw, which starts from 14.00CET at UEFA HQ in Nyon, will be conducted by UEFA General Secretary David Taylor and the ambassador for the 14 May final in Manchester, 1964 European Footballer of the Year Denis Law.
