Sporting Clube de Portugal have continued their squad strengthening for 2011/12 by following up the signing of Oguchi Onyewu with the unveiling of Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo Boeck on Thursday.
The 26-year-old has inked a five-year deal after leaving Liga rivals CS Marítimo for an undisclosed fee and he described the move as "another goal that I have achieved in my career". Boeck lands at the Estádio José Alvalade after playing all 30 league matches for Marítimo last term, along with six appearances in UEFA Europa League qualifying. He had previously been reserve goalkeeper with the Madeira-based team, whom he joined in 2007 from SC Internacional.
Boeck is new Sporting coach Domingos Paciência's seventh recruit since taking the helm and arrives just 24 hours after Onyewu's switch to a club that has also welcomed Santiago Árias, Stijn Schaars, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Alberto Rodríguez and André Carrillo. Sporting will know their opponents in the UEFA Europa League play-offs after the draw in Nyon on 5 August.
