A frustrated Víctor Montaño said Stade Rennais FC "paid the price for switching off for a minute" after Juanfran pegged them back with a late goal for Club Atlético de Madrid.

Stade Rennais FC forward Víctor Montaño was left frustrated and annoyed after his opening goal was cancelled out late on by Club Atlético de Madrid substitute Juanfran in a 1-1 Group I draw. The visitors were by far the happier with the share of the spoils and midfielder Diego said: "It was a difficult match and so I think this was a good result for us."

Víctor Montaño, Rennes forward
It's a shame that they managed to equalise and I think we paid the price for switching off for a minute. We needed to be attentive until the final whistle. We're far from dead in this group as the other two clubs drew tonight, so we're still very much in this competition.

It's frustrating because we deserved the win and we created so many chances when we put the hammer down in the second half. It's so annoying that we didn't win, but we have to keep playing like this and it will pay off for us. We were up against good players, but we've got very capable players too and we just have to learn to control games better.

Jires Kembo-Ekoko, Rennes forward
We have been conceding equalising goals of late and it's down to us to believe in ourselves, from the first minute to the last. I think when you play football you live for games such as these. European nights mean a different atmosphere and a different level of play.

I hope we'll just learn the lessons from games like this and grow as a team. The fact that we've played well against a great club like Atlético should give us confidence for our French league games to come.

Diego, Atlético forward
We're on to four points now and we are top of our group so that's all good. They're a good, strong, physical, intelligent side and they had a lot of possession in our half during the first period. It was a bit more even on that score in the second and we had several clear chances before scoring the equaliser. It was a difficult match and so I think this was a good result for us.

Thibaut Courtois, Atlético goalkeeper
You've got to win your home games and then go away and win or get a draw, so I think we did well to get the equaliser here. I knew they were a good team, well placed in the French league, with a good defence and a decent attack. They were dangerous today and it's good that we managed to get a point. I'd call this a golden point because it was difficult for us here and we had trouble getting our game going. I'm so happy we scored.
