Szabolcs Huszti has agreed to return to Hannover 96 from FC Zenit St Petersburg for an undisclosed fee following protracted negotiations.

The Hungary midfielder, 29, has signed a three-year contract with the Bundesliga side, whom he will officially rejoin next month. Hannover coach Mirko Slomka said: "I'm happy that the transfer has gone through. Szabolcs Huszti will settle in again very quickly since he's meeting up with a lot of old friends."

Huszti, capped 51 times by his country, added: "It's nice to be back. The coach put in a lot of effort to get me. For me that's a good thing and clearly an important reason behind my signing. Since I left the club has developed nicely, and I want to help with the rest of the journey."

The Ferencvárosi TC academy graduate scored seven goals in 58 league games in three campaigns at Zenit, registering four times in 26 appearances as he claimed his second Russian title last season. Huszti had taken part in 81 Bundesliga matches for Hannover between 2006 and 2009.

Hannover will face NK Široki Brijeg or Saint Patrick's Athletic FC in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round next month, discovering their opponents on Thursday, while Zenit enter the UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
