First win crucial for Sevilla's Marin

"It is very important to start with the three points," said Sevilla FC's Marko Marin after his side made a winning Group H debut at Estoril Praia, who took pride in a gutsy performance.

Sevilla FC midfielder Marko Marin how crucial an opening-night win was after his side snuck a 2-1 victory at Estoril Praia in UEFA Europa League Group H, with his Portuguese team-mate Diogo Figueiras adamant that the Spanish contenders "remained calm and confident" even after Estoril equalised. The home side's goalscorer Bruno Miguel and the goalkeeper Vagner Silva are not giving in to despair yet, though.

Marko Marin, Sevilla midfielder
We knew Estoril well after watching some videos. We missed two or three big chances in the first half – it would be easier for us if we had scored but we started the second half very well again, got the first goal and then they equalised. At the end, the better team won this game. They had one chance to level at the death but our goalkeeper made an amazing save.

It is very important to start with the three points in the group stage. Now we play at home against Freiburg and we will try to win. I know them very well – they're very good and compact and they have a good coach as well. It will not be easy but with our class I think we can win it.

Diogo Figueiras, Sevilla defender
We all knew that this would be a complicated match and we could see that during the game. When Estoril got the equaliser we remained calm and confident with the hope of scoring one more goal and winning the match. Now we will meet Freiburg and we are focused on getting the three points again. Our main objective is to get through the group stage so we face the next match thinking of winning it.

Bruno Miguel, Estoril defender
We had a late chance to make the 2-2 and I think that would have been a fairer result. It would have been fair on our team who put in an excellent performance against a powerful team. We have to applaud the team and the supporters, who helped us from the beginning as usual. We gave an excellent account of ourselves during the game.

Estoril are the underdogs in this group. All the other teams have much bigger budgets. We did the club proud.

Vagner Silva, Estoril goalkeeper
We all knew how powerful Sevilla are. We started the match very focused and even though they had the first chance we were able to control the game. In the second half they managed to score but we did not throw in the towel and got it back to 1-1. We then grew as a team but we conceded the second goal after an error, with a opponent left unmarked in front of the goal. Sevilla are the favourites in the group but we will try to qualify.
