Jan Sýkora has scored the fastest ever goal in the UEFA Europa League, getting the group stage off to a sensational start.
The early Group J match in Baku was just 10.69 seconds old when Sýkora struck for Czech visitors Liberec – incredibly, it was Azerbaijani hosts Qarabağ who had kicked off!
The pass from the centre spot was short and the visitors surged forward, former Liverpool and Galatasaray forward Milan Baroš diverting a clearance into Sýkora's path. The 22-year-old midfielder, author of a play-off hat-trick, finished clinically.
It shaved over two and a half seconds off the record set by Vitolo for Sevilla against Villarreal last year but fell narrowly short of Roy Makaay's UEFA Champions League best. The Dutchman scored after 10.12 seconds for Bayern München against Real Madrid in the 2006/07 round of 16.
