• Óscar Cardozo's appearance for Trabzonspor AŞ in their 3-1 victory over FC Metalist Kharkiv was his 41st in the UEFA Europa League – a competition record. Challenging him closely for that distinction this season are Sevilla FC's Daniel Carriço (39 appearances), FC Dynamo Kyiv's Jeremain Lens (38) and Tottenham Hotspur FC's Jan Vertonghen (37).

• Alan, with a double for FC Salzburg at Celtic FC, and Ricky van Wolfswinkel, with AS Saint-Étienne's goal against Qarabağ FK, both raised their UEFA Europa League goal tallies to ten on matchday five. Fifteen players have now reached double figures in the competition, with Radamel Falcao leading the way on 30.

• Defeats on matchday five mean that FK Partizan and ŠK Slovan Bratislava have now gone 11 games without a win – a new competition low.

• Slovan, indeed, have lost eight successive matches – which equals the UEFA Europa League record, held jointly by PFC CSKA Sofia and SK Rapid Wien. Both Slovan and FC Metalist Kharkiv could join Shamrock Rovers FC (2011/12) in going through a UEFA Europa League group stage without registering a point should they lose again on matchday six.

• St-Étienne have drawn all five of their Group F fixtures. One more and they will match Juventus's unique record of six draws in the 2010/11 group phase.

• The French club are not the only UEFA Europa League newcomers this term still chasing a first victory, with FC Krasnodar, FC Dinamo Minsk and Rio Ave FC all sharing that unenviable distinction. One other side did detach themselves from that number on matchday five, however, as FC Astra Giurgiu broke their duck with a 1-0 win at home to GNK Dinamo Zagreb.

• Dinamo Zagreb's reverse in Romania means they have now lost more games in the UEFA Europa League than any other team – 16.

• Napoli's goalless draw at AC Sparta Praha was their fifth in the UEFA Europa League, equalling the competition high shared by Liverpool FC, R. Standard de Liège and SS Lazio.

• Victories for Salzburg at Celtic and ACF Fiorentina at EA Guingamp – which in both cases ensured the victors' progress as group winners – enabled each club to stretch their unbeaten away run to eight. Should they prolong that sequence in the first leg of their respective round of 32 ties, they will match PAOK FC's competition record of nine. Fiorentina are yet to lose away from home in two seasons of UEFA Europa League participation.

• Salzburg have now won their UEFA Europa League group on three occasions, which equals the feat of PSV Eindhoven and Sporting Clube de Portugal, who both finished top of their section from 2009/10–2011/12.

• The Austrian side are this campaign's leading scorers with 16 goals in five outings. Two more in their final fixture, at home to Astra, will match the UEFA Europa League record, jointly held by RSC Anderlecht (2011/12), FC Zenit and PFC CSKA Moskva (both 2010/11).

• With five wins out of five, competition debutants FC Dinamo Moskva are bidding to become the sixth team to claim all 18 points in a UEFA Europa League group phase. Among the other clubs to have accomplished this are fellow Russians Zenit, who won all six games in 2010/11.

• Georginio Wijnaldum's equaliser for PSV Eindhoven in the delayed matchday five contest at Estoril-Praia was the 3,000th goal scored in the UEFA Europa League. Those goals have been scored in 1,145 matches, at an average of 2.62 per game.

• PSV have scored 72 of those goals and are the competition's highest-scoring club. The draw in Portugal was also their 13th in the UEFA Europa League, a new competition record.
