PSV Eindhoven will have to do without Memphis Depay for up to eight weeks due to a groin injury.

Depay, the Dutch Eredivisie top scorer with five goals from five games, was forced off 18 minutes into leaders PSV's 3-1 defeat at PEC Zwolle on Saturday evening and a scan on Monday showed the extent of the damage. "Further examination made clear that Memphis suffered a tear in his groin muscle," said a club statement. "An injury like this normally means a recovery period of six to eight weeks, but this can vary on an individual basis. PSV wish Memphis all the best in his recovery and hope for a swift return."

A two-month absence would deprive PSV of the 20-year-old Netherlands forward for their first four UEFA Europa League Group E fixtures; they start at home to Estoril Praia on Thursday.

Furthermore, Depay is likely to miss the Netherlands' UEFA EURO 2016 qualifiers against Kazakhstan (10 October) and Iceland (13 October) and could also sit out the visit of Latvia on 16 November. Depay played the full 90 minutes as the Oranje lost 2-1 in the Czech Republic in their opening Group A assignment.
