Udinese Calcio have added competition in the goalkeeping department with the signing of custodian Francesco Benussi on a free transfer from relegated US Città di Palermo.

"I'm really happy to be here, it's a fantastic opportunity for me. I hope to start in the best way," said the 31-year-old Benussi, who has also played for Torino FC, AS Livorno Calcio and US Lecce.

Benussi made just 13 appearances in four seasons with the Rosanero and believes the move will reinvigorate his career. "As soon as I had this chance I had no doubts. I had a good time with Palermo but we had different ideas about the future and I'm coming here with great motivation," he said.

Francesco Guidolin's side also confirmed that Nicolás López and Valerio Verre, both 19, have joined the Zebrette from AS Roma in joint ownership deals.

Eight straight wins at the end of the last campaign steered Udinese to fifth place in Serie A, and as a result they will face NK Široki Brijeg in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round. The first leg of that tie takes place in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday.
