Your favourite UEFA Europa League moments

Ahead of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals we asked fans of the official Facebook page and followers of @EuropaLeague on Twitter to let us know their favourite moment of the competition so far. Hundreds of comments and tweets – using #UELfinal – came in, with all four semi-finalists featuring among a string of highlights which include last-gasp goals, dramatic penalty shoot-outs and historic away wins.

@Cemyildirim: Fenerbahçe's promising 19-year-old midfielder Salih Uçan's goal celebration against Viktoria Plzeň.

Fenerbahçe SK led 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg of their round of 16 tie with FC Viktoria Plzeň. Their teenage midfielder had been on the pitch for only nine minutes, replacing the injured Mehmet Topal, when he pickpocketed Pavel Horváth and fired in for the Turkish side. Aykut Kocaman's team would draw the second leg 1-1 to progress 2-1 on aggregate.

Michael Valente on Facebook: Salvio's dramatic 90th-minute equaliser for Benfica against Newcastle. I was so nervous when we were 1-0 down, until the equaliser. I haven't celebrated a Benfica goal like that in a while. They made me really proud to be a Benfica supporter – passion and ambition.

SL Benfica were 3-1 up in their quarter-final against Newcastle United FC after the first leg in Portugal. Although Papiss Cissé's 71st-minute effort set up a frenetic finale in the return in north-east England, Eduardo Salvio struck two minutes into added time to ensure that Benfica sealed a last-four place for the second time in three years.

@albertboboc: My favourite moment was when Steaua Bucureşti came back from 2-0 down against Ajax and then defeated the UEFA Champions League holders Chelsea 1-0 at home.

FC Steaua Bucureşti were seemingly on their way out of the competition after a 2-0 round of 32 first-leg defeat at AFC Ajax. However, the Romanian outfit rallied in the home leg and took the tie to a penalty shoot-out – the first in UEFA Europa League history. They prevailed 4-2 to set up a last-16 showdown with Chelsea FC. Here, Raul Rusescu's spot kick gave Steaua a memorable win in the Bucharest opener but Chelsea advanced courtesy of a 3-1 west London victory.

Chelsea's round of 32 encounter with AC Sparta Praha appeared destined for extra time at Stamford Bridge after David Lafata's first goal for the Czech club enabled Sparta to level the aggregate scores at 1-1. However, Eden Hazard brilliantly took out two defenders before finishing with a thumping left-footed effort to seal the hosts' progress in the second minute of stoppage time.

@lampo26: Viktoria Plzeň's stunning performance to beat Napoli 3-0 at the Stadio San Paolo.

If Viktoria Plzeň went into their round of 32 tie with Serie A high fliers SSC Napoli as underdogs, a stellar team display and goals from Vladimír Darida, František Rajtoral and Stanislav Tecl earned them an eye-catching 3-0 away success in the first leg.The Czech team duly completed the job on home soil and proceeded 5-0 overall.

@Joecsmith11: Umtiti's strike for Lyon against Spurs. Absolute rocket.

Gareth Bale had given Tottenham a half-time advantage in the last-32 opener, only for Olympique Lyonnais left-back Samuel Umtiti to equalise with a thunderous half-volley that flew past a helpless Brad Friedel and into the top right-hand corner. Though the French outfit would ultimately be denied by Mousa Dembélé's late drive in the return, Umtiti's strike remains a contender for goal of the competition.
